Build The Future

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."
Matthew 7:24

Building for the future in Girls’ Brigade Scotland is what we aim to do for our girls so that they may enjoy many exciting opportunities and challenges in their local GB companies as well as at a national level. To enable us to do this we work from a solid foundation based on Christian values and principles that give girls a platform from which to develop and enrich their own journey through life. A moral framework, a compass that points our young people in the right direction but one that leads to a GB journey that is full of fun, an opportunity to make new friends, to play together, to share new skills and, as many of our girls tell us, a place where they can simply be themselves.

Currently we are looking at many new initiatives that will allow us to build a strong platform for the future, including the development of new Brigader Programme material, an ‘Olympic Challenge’ event for our Explorers and Juniors in 2012 which focuses on healthy living and fun and a series of local training initiatives for our leaders to keep them up to date and enthused about what GB can offer.

Guay

In addition, we have, quite literally, been building for the future in the form of our new national centre at Guay, near Ballinluig in Perthshire. This will offer our members, old and young, a great place to go for a weekend, a few days or a full week where they can stay in fully appointed modern lodges surrounded by open green space, giving opportunity for many outdoor activities on site and in the surrounding area. To prepare the site and provide 4 lodges has taken a great deal of time and effort in recent years, particularly in respect of raising almost £500,000 to make the dream a reality.

Now, the end of phase I is in our sights with the arrival on site of the various components that will see the first two lodges completed by early July with the other two following on with a view to completion by mid August. Having raised the funds to get this far we now need to kit out the lodges to a standard that will ensure a comfortable experience for all who stay there and we hope that many of the GB family, past and present, along with friends of GB may help us in our quest to do this. Many of you will have happy memories of time spent at the old May Murray Memorial Camphouse and as we now hope to offer the opportunity to young and old alike to build fresh memories of their time at the new Tayview Lodges.

So, how can you help us to kit out the lodges? We have drawn up a ‘Guay Gift List’ that provides details of all the items we need for each room, providing a cost per item and the number required.
